To
50th
Planning Committee
Class of
'59
The bricks
and mortar of our 50th Reunion start with our wonderful and devoted
planning committee. They have met monthly for over a year and will
continue until the big day in 2009.
They have
located classmates that were lost for
50 years
or more. They have secured contact information from most
classmates through numerous telephone calls, letters and email.
They have raised money for the 2009 event.
They have interviewed many people for a sampling of Gideon's past.
Their work has been tireless, without
compensation and performed with true love for their
classmates, GHS, and our little town of Gideon.
The
planning committee meetings are open to
all
classmates . If you are too far away to make the
meetings
you can still participate through email and
correspondence. We still have a lot of work to do.
A special
thank you to the ones participating and
we salute
you for your wonderful work.

"LIFE IS
LIKE A MOUNTAIN RAILROAD"
Patsy
Cline and Willie Nelson

LIFE'S RAILWAY TO HEAVEN
Life is like a mountain railroad, with an engineer that’s brave;
We must make the run successful, from the cradle to the grave;
Watch the curves, the fills, the tunnels; never falter, never quail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.
Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.
You will roll up grades of trial; you will cross the bridge of
strife;
See that Christ is your Conductor on this lightning train of life;
Always mindful of obstruction, do your duty, never fail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.
Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.
You will often find obstructions; look for storms of wind and rain;
On a fill, or curve, or trestle, they will almost ditch your train;
Put your trust alone in Jesus; never falter, never fail;
Keep your hand upon the throttle, and your eye upon the rail.
Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.
As you roll across the trestle, spanning Jordan’s swelling tide,
You behold the Union Depot into which your train will glide;
There you’ll meet the Superintendent, God the Father, God the Son,
With the hearty, joyous, plaudit, “Weary pilgrim, welcome home!”
Bless'd Savior, Thou wilt guide us,
Till we reach that blissful shore;
Where the angels wait to join us
In Thy praise forevermore.
Eliza R. Snow (1804-1887) may have written the
original lyrics,
with M. E. Abbey (a Baptist minister in
Georgia in the 1890s) supplying
the chorus. Abbey and Tillman
